(1/4) For Pride month I am featuring a new series on my website titled: PIECES OF HOME 💖💜💙
In this series, I’ve done sort of a collaboration with my younger self. When I was organizing my art supplies, I found pieces of handmade paper in a storage bag that I had made in 2013-2014 at my mentor’s studio or at Many Ways of Peace just few blocks from one of my childhood homes in Eagle River. All my life I’ve been quite nomadic, but these sheets of handmade paper have stayed with me over the years. So I decided to stretch some canvases with the intention to make use of the paper by wetting it down in my sink & then I laid the sheets to dry. Throughout the series, each piece seeks to capture the feelings that came with the territory that I called “home,” even if just temporarily. The recycled blue denim handmade paper is coffee-stained with elements of nature interwoven representing our connection to the cosmos & each other. I also viewed those worn pieces of blue jeans as symbolic of being a runaway; not really knowing where home was physically, but instead finding the need to be still & look inwards to find home.
